Illiberal democracy and Authoritarian government

My name is Zara. The meme I made above shows illiberal democracy and authoritarian government, and claims that both are the same ‘picture’. It explicitly shows my opinion on these government types. An illiberal democracy is not a democracy as in the quote by Aristotle declares “The basis of a democratic state is liberty.”

An illiberal democracy is a governing system that maintains the outward appearance of democracy, such as holding regular elections but lacks the effective implementation of democratic principles and civil liberties. An authoritarian government is the blind submission to authority and the repression of individual freedom of thought and action. Both these types of regimes aren’t from each other.

While authoritarian rule is openly a non-democratic rule. Illiberal democracy claims to be a democracy on the outside but doesn’t give its citizens their civil and social liberties. Illiberal democracies usually don’t have fair elections, as is the worst and most fragile type of democracy.

A democracy must include a system for choosing and replacing the government through free and fair elections; Active participation of the people, as citizens, in politics and civic life; The protection of human rights of all citizens; A rule of law in which the laws and procedures apply equally to all citizens. (Diamond page 97-98, 2004)

I would grade myself 10/10 because I have mentioned a quote, described the meme, and made a unique meme. And my assignment fulfills the grading criteria for 10 points.
