Muhammad Khan,s Week 7 Discussion

Looking back to Week 1, I started this course with a goal to learn about different political systems and chose Afghanistan and Australia for my case studies. I didn’t know much about comparing countries, so I set goals to learn as much as possible each week. I decided to stay organized and take things step-by-step to keep up with each assignment.

In Week 2, I studied both countries’ basic facts, like population, GDP, and literacy rates. This exercise helped me see how these numbers show what life is like in each place. For example, Australia has a high GDP and life expectancy, which shows stability and good living conditions. In contrast, Afghanistan’s lower numbers show more challenges. This comparison taught me how economic and social factors shape each country’s way of life.

In Week 3, I looked at the types of governments each country has. I learned that Australia is a stable democracy, while Afghanistan has faced many government changes. This helped me understand that different histories and issues shape why each country has the kind of government it does.

For Week 4, I learned about federal and unitary systems and discovered that Australia’s government is federal, meaning power is shared between national and state governments. Afghanistan’s government is more centralized, which affects how decisions are made. I saw that the way a country organizes its government can impact citizens’ everyday lives.

In Week 5, I studied executive power and bureaucracy in both countries. Australia has a well-established and stable executive branch, while Afghanistan faces challenges with its government structure. This helped me see how the strength of a country’s leadership affects how well its government can serve its people.

In Week 6, I learned about electoral and party systems. Australia has regular elections and a strong party system, which reflects its commitment to democracy. Afghanistan’s system has seen changes, showing the impact of instability. This taught me that elections and party systems play a big role in how people participate in their government.

Now, in Week 7, I feel like I’ve grown a lot from where I started. I’m better at analyzing information, and I understand how a country’s government and history affect its people. I feel more confident in comparing different political systems. Moving forward, I want to learn more about how culture and history shape politics in each country.
